Health officials in Indonesia say local tests have confirmed a 30-year-old man who died earlier this week was infected with the bird flu virus.
Officials say the man had a history of contact with poultry. If the results are confirmed by the World Health Organization, the man would be Indonesia's 25th bird flu fatality.
In China, officials reported a new human case of bird flu Friday in Sichuan province.
The health ministry said an eight-year-old girl is being treated in a local hospital after tests showed she was infected with the H5N1 strain of the virus. Twelve people have died of bird flu in China.
The virus has killed more than 113 people worldwide since 2003, mostly in Asia.
