NBA: Mavericks Beat Spurs in Overtime, Lead in Playoff Series

In the National Basketball Association playoffs, the Dallas Mavericks scored an overtime win over the defending champion San Antonio Spurs, 123 to 118 Monday.

Guard Jason Terry scored 32 points to lead the Mavericks. Spurs center Tim Duncan had 31 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in a losing effort.

Dallas now leads the best-of-seven Western Conference semifinal series three games to one. Game Five is Wednesday in San Antonio.

Earlier Monday in the Eastern Conference semifinals, the Cleveland Cavaliers evened their playoff series with the Detroit Pistons at two games apiece, with a 74 to 72 win.

The Cavaliers' defense smothered the Pistons in Cleveland, as LeBron James scored 22 points for the home team.

Cleveland had some extra motivation after Detroit forward Rasheed Wallace guaranteed a Pistons' win.

Game Five of the best-of-seven series is Wednesday in Detroit.
