Koizumi Begins US, Canada Visit

Japan's Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi has arrived in Toronto to begin a trip to Canada and the United States.

Mr. Koizumi is scheduled to travel first to Niagara Falls, near the Canada - U.S. border, then to Ottawa for talks with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper Wednesday.

The Japanese leader is scheduled to meet with President Bush at the White House Thursday. Mr. Bush and Mr. Koizumi are expected to discuss a possible long-range missile test by North Korea, and economic issues including Japan's resumption of U.S. beef imports.

After the Washington talks, the two leaders will travel to Memphis, to tour Graceland Mansion, home of rock'n'roll legend Elvis Presley. Mr. Koizumi is widely known as being an avid Presley fan.

The trip is likely to be the Japanese leader's last official visit to the United States. Mr. Koizumi is to step down in September.
