McEwen Wins 4th Stage of Tour de France, Boonen Remains Overall Leader


Australian cyclist Robbie McEwen has won the fourth stage of the Tour de France, but Belgian Tom Boonen remains the overall leader.

McEwen of Davitamon-Lotto completed the 207 kilometer ride from Huy, Belgium to Saint Quentin, France at the head of a pack of riders that finished in 4:59:50. Spain's Isaac Galvez was second with the same time while Oscar Freire of Spain was third.

Boonen finished fifth but retained the overall leader's yellow jersey, just one second ahead of Michael Rogers of Australia. American rider George Hincapie is third overall, five seconds off the lead.

Thursday's fifth stage covers 219 kilometers, from Beauvais to Caen. The tour ends in Paris July 23.
