Spanish cyclist Juan Miguel Mercado has won the 10th stage of the Tour de France, the first stage in the mountains, but French rider Cyril Dessel is the overall leader.
As the race headed into the Pyrenees, Mercado finished the 190.5-kilometer ride in four hours, 49 minutes, 10 seconds. Dessel was second in a sprint finish with Spain's Inigo Landaluze third, 56 seconds off the leaders.
Dessel has the overall lead, two minutes, 34 seconds ahead of Mercado. Serguei Gonchar of Ukraine is third overall, three minutes 45 seconds off the lead.
Thursday's stage takes the riders into Spain and covers 208 kilometers, including one "hors categorie" (too steep for classification) and four category-one climbs. The tour ends July 23 in Paris.
