As the race headed into the Pyrenees, Mercado finished the 190.5-kilometer ride in four hours, 49 minutes, 10 seconds. Dessel was second in a sprint finish with Spain's Inigo Landaluze third, 56 seconds off the leaders.

Dessel has the overall lead, two minutes, 34 seconds ahead of Mercado. Serguei Gonchar of Ukraine is third overall, three minutes 45 seconds off the lead.
