Baseball: Yankees Crush Rival Red Sox Again


The New York Yankees have once again crushed the Boston Red Sox in a matchup of Major League Baseball arch-rivals.

The Yankees broke a tie with five runs in the sixth inning Saturday on the way to trouncing the Red Sox 13-5.

New York has scored at least 12 runs in each of the first three games of their five-game series in Boston. The Yankees have also taken a four-and-a-half-game lead over the Red Sox atop the American League East division.

Sunday's match-up features star pitchers Mike Mussina for New York against Curt Schilling for Boston.

In other AL action Saturday, the Baltimore Orioles crushed the Toronto Blue Jays 15-0. The Texas Rangers got by the Detroit Tigers 3-1. The Chicago White Sox defeated the Minnesota Twins 4-1. The Cleveland Indians beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 5-3. The Oakland Athletics eased by the Kansas City Royals 7-2. And, the Los Angeles Angels tripped up the Seattle Mariners 9-7.

In the National League, Chicago's Phil Nevin drove in a game-ending run in the 10th inning to give the Cubs a 5-4 win over the rival St. Louis Cardinals. The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the San Diego Padres 5-3. The Atlanta Braves downed the Florida Marlins by the same score. The Philadelphia Phillies scored eight runs in the second inning on the way to thrashing the Washington Nationals 11-2. The Cincinnati Reds thumped the Pittsburgh Pirates 14-7. The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Houston Astros 6-4. The New York Mets defeated the Colorado Rockies 7-4. And, the Los Angeles Dodgers had no trouble with the San Francisco Giants in a 14-7 decision.
