Women's Tennis: Henin-Hardenne Wins Pilot Pen Tournament

update

French Open winner Justine Henin-Hardenne of Belgium won the women's title at the Pilot Pen hard-court tennis tournament Saturday in New Haven, Connecticut.

Reigning champion Lindsay Davenport of the United States retired with a right shoulder injury in the second set, 6-0, 1-0. Davenport said after the match that she hopes to be ready for next week's U.S. Open, where she is seeded 10th and plays Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic in the first round.

The men's final has Argentina's Agustin Calleri facing second-seed Nikolay Davydenko of Russia. Calleri reached his second final this year when his opponent - 13th-seed Xavier Malisse of Belgium - retired with a right elbow injury. Davydenko ousted Sweden's Robin Soderling in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2.

The tournament is one of the final warm-ups for the U.S. Open, the last major tournament of the year. The Open starts Monday in New York.
