Six Bangladeshi Peacekeepers Die in Road Accident in Ivory Coast

The United Nations confirmed Saturday that six of its peacekeepers from Bangladesh were killed and 11 others were injured in a road accident in Ivory Coast.

U.N. officials say the accident occurred late Friday as the U.N. peacekeepers traveled from the capital Yamoussoukro to the city of Abidjan.

The nature of the accident is not clear.

A multinational force is in Ivory Coast monitoring a peace process aimed at returning the country to normalcy. A 2002 civil war split the nation into rebel and government-held areas.

Some information for this report was provided by AP and Reuters.
