Drive-by Shooting in Gaza Kills Palestinian Official, 4 Others

update

Security officials in Gaza City say gunmen killed five Palestinians, including a top intelligence officer, in a drive-by shooting Friday.

The incident occurred near the home of Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh.

Officials say unidentified gunmen in a car opened fire on a vehicle carrying Jad Tayeh, an officer in the Palestinian intelligence service and four of his bodyguards.

The motive for the attack is not clear.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

In the past, there have been several incidents of deadly clashes between rival Palestinian factions, including the ruling Hamas organization and the Fatah group led by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Also in Gaza City, witnesses say a small explosion caused minor damage outside a Greek Orthodox church Friday.

No one was injured in the blast.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
