Memorial Dedicated to NYC Plane Crash Victims

Hundreds gathered Sunday in New York City to dedicate a memorial in remembrance of 265 people who died five years ago in one of the nation's worst airline disasters.

Designed by a Dominican artist, the memorial is a curved wall inscribed with the names of the dead.

Some were disappointed the memorial was located 15 blocks from the crash site, but people living nearby said a memorial would not fit into the neighborhood.

American Airlines flight 587 - heading to the Dominican Republic - crashed minutes after takeoff from New York's John F. Kennedy airport, killing all 260 people aboard the plane and five others on the ground.

Some information for this report was provided by AP.
