About 100 People Killed or Found Dead in Iraq

It was another bloody day in Iraq, as a series of attacks and execution-style killings claimed some 100 lives Monday.

Iraqi officials say 75 bodies were found in the country, including 60 in different areas of Baghdad - the apparent victims of rampant sectarian violence. Officials say the bodies showed signs of torture.

Two Iraqi Shi'ite officials escaped apparent assassination attempts around the capital.

And a prominent Iraqi television star and comedian was shot to death while driving through Baghdad. Walid Hassan often used dark comedy to try to provide some relief from the violence and misery in Iraq.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military says one Marine was killed in fighting in Al Anbar Province Sunday.

A separate statement says coalition forces raided suspected Shi'ite militia strongholds in Sadr City to search for a cell of militiamen believed responsible for kidnapping and torturing Iraqi civilians and soldiers.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
