Football: Three More Teams Reach Next Found of UEFA Cup

Three more teams have reached the next round of the UEFA Cup football tournament. But fan unrest marred a game in France.

Players from host Nancy and Feyenoord of the Netherlands were led from the field Thursday, struggling from the effects of tear gas fired by police. Ten minutes remained in the game when the incident occurred with Nancy leading, 3-0. The Group-E contest eventually resumed in an empty stadium and the score held.

Nancy secured a place in the second round with Espanyol of Spain and the Greek club Panathinaikos. Espanyol won 2-0 at four-time European champion Ajax of the Netherlands in Group-F. Panathinaikos played Rapid Bucharest of Romania to a scoreless draw (0-0) in Group-G.

Already advancing are defending champion Sevilla of Spain, AZ Alkmaar of the Netherlands, Rangers of Scotland and the Israeli team Maccabi Haifa. Tottenham of England, Dinamo Bucharest of Romania, the Italian club Parma, and the English teams Blackburn and Newcastle are also in the second round with another round of games remaining. Of the eight groups, 24 teams go into the knockout round. They will be joined in the December 15th draw by eight third-place finishers in the Champions League.
