The 15th Asian Games came to a close in Doha, Qatar, Friday night with an elaborate closing ceremony including Sinbad the Sailor, 900 child genies, and Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves.
The two-hour extravaganza with the theme of "Arabian Nights" also featured several hundred jugglers, acrobats, and dancers. The ceremony ended with a huge fireworks display.
Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al Sabah, the president of the Olympic Council of Asia, told the 55,000 fans and athletes in the stadium and a worldwide television audience that the Games were a tremendous success.
Al-Sabah then declared the Games closed and handed the Olympic Council of Asia flag to the mayor of Guangzhou, China, the host of the 2010 games.
China won the most medals, 316, with 165 gold. South Korea was second with 58 gold medals in its total of 193. Japan had more total medals than South Korea, but had 50 golds.
