More than one third of French secondary school teachers have staged a one-day strike to protest a government plan to increase their working hours.
Several thousand teachers marched in Paris Monday to protest the proposed measure.
Education ministry wants to extend the number of hours teachers spend in the classroom to cut some 2,800 full-time positions.
But 15 teachers' unions have denounced the plan and called for the strike Monday.
The unions said more than half of the country's teachers participated in the strike.
The education ministry put the figure at about 35 percent.
