NFL: Eagles, Patriots Post Playoff Wins

update

The Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots have advanced in the National Football League playoffs with wins on their home fields Sunday.

Brian Westbrook had 141 yards rushing, including a spectacular, slashing 49-yard touchdown run in the second quarter of Philadelphia's 23-20 victory over the New York Giants. Eagles quarterback Jeff Garcia threw for 153 yards and one touchdown as he plays in place of the injured Donovan McNabb.

In what was probably his last game, New York running back Tiki Barber ran for 137 yards. A three-time Pro Bowl player, Barber has said he is retiring after 10 seasons in the NFL. Philadelphia travels to New Orleans next week to play the Saints.

Quarterback Tom Brady completed 22 of 34 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns as the New England Patriots scored a 37-16 win over the New York Jets. Brady threw touchdown passes to Daniel Graham and Kevin Faulk, before Asante Samuel returned an interception 36 yards for a touchdown to seal the win with less than five minutes left in the game.

The three-time Super Bowl champion Patriots play in San Diego next Sunday against the American Conference top-seeded Chargers.

Also next week, the Baltimore Ravens host the Indianapolis Colts. The Seattle Seahawks travel to Chicago to face the National Conference top-seeded Bears.
