Stolen Painting Found in Filmmaker Spielberg's Collection

A Norman Rockwell painting stolen more than three decades ago has turned up at the home of acclaimed U.S. film director Steven Spielberg.

The FBI says Spielberg is not a suspect.

The painting, "Russian Schoolroom," was stolen from a Norman Rockwell exhibit in the southern U.S. state of Missouri in 1973. The Oscar-winning filmmaker purchased the painting from a legitimate dealer in 1989.

FBI officials say Spielberg was not aware that the painting was stolen until his staff recognized it on a FBI theft notice last week.

The bureau says Spielberg is cooperating with the FBI and will keep the painting "until its disposition can be determined."
