A strong earthquake struck the western Mexican state of Guerrero Friday morning.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude 6.0 quake struck about 65 kilometers north of the coastal tourist city of Acapulco around midnight local time. It knocked out power and sent tourists and residents fleeing into the streets.
Three hours later, things were shaken again by an aftershock with a magnitude of 5.4. Some people spent the night outside in fear of another quake.
The quake was felt in the capital, Mexico City, nearly 250 kilometers north of the epicenter. Authorities say there also were power outages in some parts of that city.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake was felt so far away because it was centered inland and just 35 kilometers below the earth's surface.
There were no initial reports of injuries or major damage.
