Five-time title winner Liverpool of England has reached this year's Champions League football final after beating visiting Chelsea, 4-1, on penalties after the two-leg series ended 1-1 on aggregate.
Chelsea had won the first leg, 1-0. But Liverpool had equalized the clash with a goal by Daniel Agger in the 22nd minute Tuesday.
Liverpool appeared to have netted what would have been the winning score by Dirk Kuyt in the first-half of extra-time. But the goal was wiped out by an offside penalty.
Kuyt would later emerge as the player to kick the decisive penalty for Liverpool.
The team will meet either AC Milan of Italy or the English club Manchester United in the final on May 23 in Athens, Greece.
