MLB: Twins Win on Morneau Homer in Ninth


In Major League Baseball inter-league play, Minnesota's Justin Morneau hit a home run on the first pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Twins a 10-9 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Morneau's game-ending homer Sunday was his third of the season for the Twins.

The New York Yankees had little trouble in beating their cross-city rival Mets, earning an 8-2 victory in Yankee Stadium. Chien-Ming Wong had a career-high 10 strikeouts for the Yankees while earning his seventh win of the season. Teammate Alex Rodriguez hit his 27th homer of the year - best in the majors.

The Cleveland Indians downed the Atlanta Braves, 5-2. The Los Angeles Angels beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 10-4. The defending World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Oakland Athletics, 10-6. The Cards' Ryan Ludwick hit a go-ahead, three-run homer in the seventh inning.

The defending American League champion Detroit Tigers rallied with five runs in the seventh inning to beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-4. The Boston Red Sox defeated the San Francisco Giants, 9-5. San Francisco's Barry Bonds hit his 748th career home run to move within seven of Hank Aaron's record.

The Houston Astros completed a three-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners, using Mike Lamb's grand slam to win, 10-3. Tampa Bay's Jonny Gomes hit a pair of two-run homers in the Devil Rays' 7-4 win over the Colorado Rockies. The Washington Nationals doubled the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-2. The Kansas City Royals edged the Florida Marlins, 5-4. The Arizona Diamondbacks sent the Baltimore Orioles to their eighth straight loss in a 6-4 decision. The Texas Rangers eased by the Cincinnati Reds, 11-4. And, the Pittsburgh Pirates tripped up the Chicago White Sox, 8-7.

In a National League matchup, San Diego's Mike Cameron hit two of the Padres' five home runs in their 11-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs.
