'Fantastic Four' Tops US Weekend Box Office

Superheroes ruled the U.S. box office last weekend, as Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer debuted at number one with $57.4 million in sales. It slightly surpasses the $56.1 million dollar opening of its 2005 predecessor, The Fantastic Four.

The previous winner, Ocean's Thirteen, fell to second place with $19.1 million. Its 10-day total stands at $69.8 million, putting it on track to become the franchise's third consecutive $100 million movie.

Overall, Hollywood revenues slipped for the third straight weekend. The top 12 movies took in $138.8 million, down four percent from the same time last year.
