Golf: Garcia Leads British Open

Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia has fired a three-under par 68 in the third round of the British Open in Carnoustie, Scotland, to stay on track to win the first major title of his career.

The 27-year-old Garcia had a three-shot lead at the end of play Saturday with a total of 204. Despite setting a new British Open course record, American Steve Stricker is three shots back. His seven-under-par 64 in the third round, which was just one stroke off the tournament mark, leaves him six-under for the tournament at 207.

Seven players, including South Africa's Ernie Els, K.J. Choi of South Korea and American Chris DiMarco, are tied for third place another three shots back at 210.

Tiger Woods of the United States, who is trying to become the first player in more than a half-century to win a third straight British Open title, carded a two-under 69 on Saturday. But trailing Garcia by eight strokes and tied for 15th place, the world number-one appears to have a nearly impossible task on Sunday.
