MLB: Yankees Crush Devil Rays 21-4


The New York Yankees crushed the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, 21-4, Sunday in a Major League Baseball rout.

Every Yankee starter had a hit, drove in a run and scored a run in the one-sided contest.

Alex Rodriguez hit one of six home runs for the Yankees - his major's-leading 34th of the season.

In another American League contest, three Baltimore pitchers combined on a two-hitter, as the Orioles beat the Oakland Athletics, 2-0.

The Kansas City Royals tripped up the Detroit Tigers, 5-2. Toronto pitcher Roy Halladay tossed a three-hitter in the Blue Jays' 8-0 trouncing of the Seattle Mariners. The Boston Red Sox downed the Chicago White Sox, 8-5. The Los Angeles Angels defeated the Minnesota Twins, 7-5. And the Cleveland Indians beat the Texas Rangers, 8-3.

In a National League contest between division leaders, the New York Mets edged the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-4, in 10 innings. The Mets tied the game in the ninth on an error, then Chip Ambres drove in the game-winner in the 10th.

St. Louis had a two-run home run and a three-run homer in the top of the 10th inning to get by the Atlanta Braves, 7-2. The Philadelphia Phillies shut down the San Diego Padres, 9-0. The Houston Astros eked out a 1-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Florida Marlins downed the Cincinnati Reds, 9-3. Washington slugger Austin Kearns hit a three-run homer to give the Nationals a 3-0 win over the Colorado Rockies. The Milwaukee Brewers used first-inning home runs by Ryan Braun and Cory Hart off San Francisco star pitcher Barry Zito to beat the Giants, 7-5. And the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Chicago Cubs, 3-0.
