Nepal's Crown Prince Suffers Heart Attack

Health officials in Nepal say the Himalayan kingdom's crown prince has suffered a major heart attack, but is now in stable condition.

Crown Prince Paras was rushed to the hospital in the Nepalese capital Thursday after complaining of chest pains. His father and mother, King Gyanendra and Queen Komal, arrived at the hospital shortly after he was admitted.

The prince is in his mid-30's and is known for a wild life style.

He survived a June 2001 massacre at Nepal's royal palace where 10 members of the family, including then King Birendra, were killed.

An official investigation blamed Birendra's son, Dipendra, who in turn killed himself. The massacre resulted in the crowning of King Gyanendra, who has since been forced to give up authoritarian rule.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP and AP.
