Officials in U.S. state of Wisconsin say a sheriff's deputy shot six people to death and wounded another before he was killed by a police sniper.
Authorities said 20-year-old Tyler Peterson killed six people at a party early Sunday in Crandon, Wisconsin, a town of 2,000 people some 360 kilometers north of Milwaukee. The county sheriff said the deputy was not on duty at the time of the shootings.
The mayor of Crandon said Peterson was killed by a sniper following a manhunt.
At least two of the victims were students at Crandon high-school. The others were recent graduates. Classes have been canceled Monday.
Officials have made no comment on possible motives for the shootings.
