Baseball Playoffs: Diamondbacks, Rockies Advance

update

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies will face off to decide Major League Baseball's National League title, after both completed three-game sweeps of their divisional series.

Arizona's Chris Young hit a home run on the first pitch of the game in Chicago Saturday. The Diamondbacks went on to win, 5-1.

Arizona pitcher Livan Hernandez, who is from Cuba, earned the victory. He gave up five hits and five walks in his six innings of work, pitching out of trouble on several occasions.

The Colorado Rockies edged the favored Philadelphia Phillies, 2-1, to advance to the National League Championship series for the first time ever.

Pinch-hitter Jeff Baker broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth inning with a run-scoring single, giving the Rockies a sweep in the best-of-five series.

Colorado and Arizona open their best-of-seven series Thursday in Arizona, with the winner advancing to the World Series later this month.

The Rockies, who made the playoffs as a wild-card team, have won 17 of their last 18 games.

The two American League divisional series could also end in three-game sweeps Sunday.

The Cleveland Indians are in New York to face the Yankees, who trail Cleveland two-games-to-none.

The Boston Red Sox visit the Los Angeles Angels, with Boston looking to complete a sweep.
