Report Says South African Businesses Profiting From Zimbabwe Crisis

The South African-based Solidarity Peace Trust has issued a report saying that trade between South Africa and Zimbabwe remains very strong despite the economic crisis in Zimbabwe – but that most of the benefits are accruing to South African firms.

The report, entitled “A Difficult Dialogue,” says South African firms doing business with Zimbabwe are making good profits and that South Africa has reaped benefits from the situation, such as the flow of skilled professionals into the South African market.

Roman Catholic Bishop Kevin Dowling, a trustee of the Solidarity Peace Trust, tells reporter Patience Rusere of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that the report is going to be sent to non-governmental organizations, South African businesses, diplomats and others in an effort to increase awareness of the risk of crisis exploitation.
