Roddick, Tursunov, Kohlschreiber Win Tennis


In a warmup to this month's Australian Open, seventh-seeded German Philipp Kohlschreiber upset number four Juan Carlos Ferrero in straight sets to win the Heineken Tennis Open in Auckland, New Zealand.

Kohlschreiber took the first set in a tiebreaker over the former world number one player from Spain, then won the match with a 7-5 victory in the second set.

In another warmup to the first Grand Slam event of the year, American Andy Roddick beat Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus, 7-5, 6-3, to win the Kooyong Classic exhibition tournament in Melbourne, Australia. Russian Marat Safin won a third-place playoff, downing Fernando Gonzalez of Chile, 6-3, 6-3.

At the Sydney International hard court tournament, Russian Dmitry Tursunov scored a 7-6, 7-6 win over Australian Chris Guccione to win the men's final. All three events were the final warm-ups for the Australian Open, which starts Monday in Melbourne.
