Goergl Wins Women's WC Giant Slalom


Austrian skier Elisabeth Goergl has won a women's World Cup giant slalom race in Maribor, Slovenia -- the first World Cup win of her career.

Goergl dominated the first leg and finished strong in the second leg to take the race in a total time of two minutes, 38.49 seconds. Manuela Moelgg of Italy was second, nearly one-half second back (2:38.98).

Denise Karbon of Italy was third, snapping her winning streak at four races. Karbon had won every World Cup giant slalom this season.

Lindsey Vonn was the top U.S. finisher in 13th place. Nicole Hosp of Austria finished sixth to retain the overall lead with 599 points. Maria Riesch of Germany is second overall (538 points) with Lindsey Vonn third (524 points).
