Non-Profit Organization Helps Children of US Servicemen

American soldiers have been overseas fighting in Afghanistan for seven years and Iraq for five years. Many of them are members of the U.S. National Guard, who have left behind children unaccustomed to military absences, and who need the support and care of more than one parent.

Two women in the Washington, D.C. area stepped in and started a non-profit organization that helps pay for activities of the children who remain behind.

For VOA producer June Soh, Carol Pearson narrates the story of the two women and the children they are helping, from McLean, Virginia.
