A hostage standoff in the capital city of Guatemala has ended peacefully, after the hostage-taker surrendered to police.
Authorities in Guatemala City say 29-year-old Luis Escobar took at least 40 people hostage at a customer service call center after overpowering a security guard. He demanded to see his ex-lover and her new boyfriend.
Escobar claimed to have a bomb, and and threatened to blow up the building.
Police persuaded him to release the hostages and surrender after five hours of negotiations.
