Suicide Blast Kills 1, Wounds 9 in Northern Iraq

Iraqi officials say a suicide blast has killed one policeman and wounded at least nine other people in the northern city of Kirkuk.

Officials say Saturday's attack targeted police recruits.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military says coalition forces detained 18 suspects over the past two days in operations targeting al-Qaida forces in central and northern Iraq.

A military statement says one of the men, captured early today, is believed to be a leader in al-Qaida's Baghdad network and to have facilitated roadside bombings in the city.

On Friday, the top U.S. military commander in Iraq said American troops there will be making changes to the way they carry out their mission, now that the two countries have a new security pact.

General Ray Odierno said U.S. forces will still be able to defend themselves - and would continue to focus on combating al-Qaida and other extremist groups. But he said the U.S. will have to coordinate and carry out all future operations with Iraqi security forces.
