Yemen Arrests 6 Accused of Plotting Terror Attacks

Authorities in Yemen say they have arrested six members of an alleged al-Qaida cell suspected of plotting terrorist attacks.

Yemen's interior ministry says the suspects are believed to have planned 12 attacks on foreign tourists and oil installations, including two recent suicide bombings targeting South Koreans.

Yemeni officials say security forces are hunting for other members of the terrorist cell.

Earlier this month, a suicide bomber killed four South Korean tourists and their Yemeni guide in the southeastern city of Shibam. Days later, another suicide bomber targeted a convoy of South Korean officials sent to investigate the first attack, but none of the visitors was hurt.

Yemeni security forces have been battling al-Qaida and similar groups who have carried out several deadly attacks in recent years.

Last week, Yemen offered a cash reward for information leading to the arrest of 12 suspected al-Qaida members.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP and Reuters.
