Suicide Blast Kills 5 Afghan Security Guards

Afghan police say a suicide bomber on a motorbike blew himself up Wednesday, killing five security guards who were escorting a NATO convoy near the Pakistan border in Kandahar province.

Authorities say the attack happened as the supply convoy was traveling in Spin Boldak district, a major border crossing point between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

A day earlier, a roadside bombing in eastern Afghanistan's Paktia province killed at least eight Afghan security guards.

Britain's Ministry of Defense said Wednesday that an explosion in southern Helmand province on Tuesday killed a British soldier.

Afghan police say three Taliban militants were killed Tuesday in southern Zabul province during a clash with police.
