Zimbabwe Teachers Union Says Pay Raise Offered By Harare Insufficient

The Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe has declared itself unsatisfied with the pay raise proposed by the government to teachers and other public employees, saying its members will continue to boycott classes on Fridays pending a better offer from the state.

PTUZ President Takavafira Zhou said the newly announced salaries of US$155 to US$200 fall short of the minimum monthly US$454 the union has demanded.

Zhou told reporter Patience Rusere of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that his union is consulting its members as to expanding their job action.
