Slocum Wins PGA's Omaha Classic - 2001-08-06

Heath Slocum earned an immediate promotion to the PGA Tour on Sunday, winning the Omaha Classic in Nebraska. It was his third Buy.com Tour victory of the season. Slocum closed with a 6-under-par 66 for a one-stroke victory over Australia's Rod Pampling.

Golfer Bobby Wadkins never won any of the 712 tournaments he entered on the PGA Tour. But on Sunday, he won in his first tournament on the Senior PGA Tour. Wadkins closed with a birdie for a 4-under-par 68 and a one-stroke victory in the Long Island Classic in Jericho, New York.

The last golfer to win in his first try on the Senior Tour was Bobby Wadkins' brother, Lanny Wadkins, who did it last year.

Tom Pernice, Jr. won his second career PGA Tour title, steadying himself after back-to-back bogeys on the back nine to win The International on Sunday. Pernice, the second and third-round leader, finished with 34 points for a one-point victory over Chris Riley at Castle Rock, Colorado.
