14-Year-Old Jazz Pianist Releases First CD - 2001-08-20

Meet 14-year-old jazz pianist Eldar Djangirov. Born in Kyrgystan in the former Soviet Union, Eldar learned to play the piano from his father, an avid jazz fan and listener of VOA.

Since coming to the United States on a music scholarship three years ago, Eldar has attended the famous Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, performed on national television and recently released his first CD.

Now living in Kansas City, Kansas with his parents, Eldar says that he will continue practicing the piano three hours a day when he begins high school next month.

In this conversation with VOA's Doug Levine, Eldar remains a typical teenager despite his sudden success in America.
