Brazilian forward Luizao scored the first two goals, followed by Rivaldo all three in the first half which gave Brazil a comfortable lead that it never lost.

Brazil desperately needed this victory. Had Brazil lost to Venezuela, it could have failed to secure a berth in next year's World Cup a humiliation for the four-time Cup winner that has qualified for every championship in the past. Brazil now joins Argentina, Paraguay, and Ecuador as the four South American teams to qualify for next year's World Cup games.
