A white farmer was killed in Zimbabwe today. According to the commercial farmers union, the CFU, Terry Ford was shot while trying to escape an attack on his farm. The farm is located about 30 kilometers south of Harare. The CFU says it was going through the legal process of being turned over to a black owner. It says Mr. Ford came to the homestead once a week to check on its condition. Ten white farmers have been killed in the two years since President Mugabe began implementing his land redistribution program.
Benjamin Freeth is a regional official for the Commercial Farmers Union. He blames settlers who have occupied the farm. He spoke to English to Africa reporter Joe De Capua and gave his reaction to the farmer’s death.
