UN Delegation to Visit DRC - 2002-03-27

The U.N. Security Council has confirmed plans to send a delegation to the Democratic Republic of Congo and other nations in the region next month.

A Security Council spokesman says the delegation hopes to jump start the peace process in the region and encourage implementation of the Lusaka accords. The agreement was designed to end a multi-nation conflict which has plagued Congo since 1998.

French U..Ambassador Jean-David Levitte will lead the delegation. The group will depart April 27 and their trip will include visits to Angola, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and Uganda.
