Uganda says its troops have launched an offensive against a Ugandan rebel group, capturing at least one rebel camp in southern Sudan.
Ugandan Defense Minister Amama Mbabazi told a news conference today (Friday) that Ugandan troops also were moving to other rebel strongholds in Sudan. Khartoum is cooperating in the operation.
Mr. Mbabazi said the camps belong to the Lord's Resistance Army rebels.
The group has been waging a war since the mid-1980's to overthrow the Ugandan government and replace it with a system based on the biblical Ten Commandments. The rebel group is also known for its brutal treatment of civilians.
