Top seed Silvia Farina Elia of Italy has advanced to the semifinals of the Bell Tennis Challenge in Quebec, Canada with a three-set win over sixth-seed Alexandra Stevenson of the United States.
Farina Elia dropped the middle set 3-6 late Friday, but easily won the first set, 6-2, and the deciding set, 6-1.
She will face Switzerland's Marie Gaianeh Mikaelian, who advanced on Thursday by upsetting number three Magdalena Maleeva.
The other semifinal Saturday will be a battle between two Russians: unseeded Anastassia Rodionova and number seven Elena Bovina.
Rodionova beat unseeded Marlene Weingartner of Germany on Friday, 7-6, 6-0. Bovina ousted unseeded Angelika Roesch of Germany, 6-2, 6-0.
