Shutouts Dominate NHL Action, Tuesday


Canadian left winger Dave Andreychuk scored his 609th goal in National Hockey League action, moving him into 12th place on the all-time career list.

Andreychuck's goal Tuesday night helped the Tampa Bay Lighting defeat the Anaheim Mighty Ducks 2-0. Russian goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin notched his third shutout this year and 31st of his career.

There were four more shutouts Tuesday - the Minnesota Wild defeated the Ottawa Senators 3-0; the Nashville Predators blanked the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets 5-0; the blazing Vancouver Canucks pulverized the visiting Atlanta Thrashers 8-0 and the Philadelphia Flyers shut down the host Chicago Blackhawks 2-0.

In Pittsburgh, the Los Angeles Kings overcame two goals by Canadian superstar Mario Lemieux and a two-goal deficit to defeat the Penguins 5-3.

In other games, the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the New York Islanders 5-2, while the Colorado Avalanche edged the Edmonton Oilers 4-2.

The Dallas Stars skated to a 5-5 tie against the Boston Bruins and the New York Rangers ended deadlocked 3-3 against their traditional rivals the New Jersey Devils.
