Deputy operations commander Brigadier General Vincent Brooks with the U.S.-led coalition in the war against Iraq says a senior Iraqi general captured recently is cooperating with coalition forces.
General Brooks provided a few details about the captured Iraqi officer.
"He is an Iraqi general that had some information about tactical dispositions," he said. "We are using that information. An advantage will come to us as a result of that."
General Brooks said the general was taken two days ago, but declined to say where. He added that tribal leaders had helped coalition forces in an operation in southern Iraq and Iraqi civilians in western Iraq had led coalition troops to a hospital where chemical protection suits and heavy ammunition were stored.
General Brooks said the cooperation shows the success of a coalition media campaign to reassure Iraqi civilians. He said five military-run radio stations are now broadcasting to all of Iraq.
