Handicap Advocacy Group Attempts to Sensitize the Media - 2003-04-14

update

Media representatives have been meeting today and yesterday in Nyanga with groups representing people with disabilities.

The media have been criticized for using inappropriate language when reporting on the disabled.

The National Association of Societies for the Care of the Handicapped (NACO) is trying to wake up the media with the workshop. NASCO is an umbrella body for 53 groups.

Chairman Godfrey Majonga says the media have a significant role to play in people’s perceptions of the disabled.
