Chavez Opponents Protest 'Cubanization' of Venezuela

Opponents of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez held a demonstration Friday outside the Cuban embassy in Caracas to protest against what they called the "Cubanization" of Venezuela.

Scores of demonstrators lined the streets near the Cuban embassy waving Venezuelan flags and placards denouncing Mr. Chavez and Cuban President Fidel Castro.

The protesters expressed anger over Mr. Castro's crackdown on dissidents in Cuba and criticized policies implemented by Mr. Chavez that they say are turning Venezuela into a communist state.

Friday's demonstration came one day after Venezuela voted against a resolution by the U.N. Human Rights Commission urging Cuba to accept a visit by a human rights envoy.
