Top Iraqi Bio Weapons Scientist is in Custody - 2003-05-05

U.S.-led coalition forces have taken into custody another of Iraq's most wanted, this time a woman believed to be knowledgeable about Baghdad's weapons of mass destruction programs.

Huda Salih Mahdi Ammash is the only woman among Iraq's top 55 most wanted fugitives from the former Saddam Hussein government. She is identified as a Baath Party Youth and Trade Bureau Chairman.

But Pentagon officials are more interested in her as one of Iraq's leading weapons of mass destruction scientists. She is a trained microbiologist who has been nicknamed "Mrs. Anthrax" by U.S. intelligence.

No details on her detention have been released.

U.S. authorities say they have taken into custody 17 other top Iraqi officials who were either captured or surrendered.
