50 Bodies Found in Mass Grave in Bosnia - 2003-06-24

Forensic experts have exhumed at least 50 bodies from a mass grave in eastern Bosnia-Herzegovina on the latest search for people missing in the Balkan conflict of the early 1990s.

An official of the Commission for Missing Persons of Bosnia's Muslim-Croat Federation, Murat Hurtic, says officials discovered the bodies in a grave near the town of Zvornik. He says the remains were found in Yugoslav Federal Army body bags and laid out in a row.

The official says witnesses identify the dead as Bosnian Muslims killed there by Serb forces in early 1992.

Mr. Hurtic says the experts expect to find at least 100 bodies in the area.

Thousands of people were killed during the Bosnian conflict.
