The U.S. men's football team takes on Costa Rica in the third place game of the CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament in Miami, Florida.
The U.S. team lost its semifinal to Brazil 2-1 on a penalty kick by Diego in the 10th minute of overtime. Costa Rica lost to Mexico, 2-0, in the semifinals.
Costa Rica and the United States have the same record of nine wins, nine losses and four draws in head-to-head, all-time competition. The teams last met in last year's Gold Cup final when the U.S. team beat Costa Rica 2-0.
The U.S. team is still hoping to secure the last berth in the CONCACAF region for the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup tournament. The Americans need to beat Costa Rica and have Brazil beat Mexico in Sunday's Gold Cup final at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. The U.S. would then play Mexico for the last CONCACAF berth in the Confederations Cup.
