Adidas-Salomon Willing Again to Sponsor German Cyclist Ullrich - 2003-08-10

German sports manufacturing giant Adidas-Salomon says it is willing to again sponsor cyclist Jan Ullrich following his strong performance in the recent Tour de France.

Adidas cancelled Ullrich's contract last year after the 29-year-old German rider tested positive for amphetamines in last June. But Adidas-Salamon chairman Herbert Hainer says Ullrich and Adidas could work together again if the Bianchi team captain can sustain his current form on the road.

Ullrich finished second to five-time consecutive winner Lance Armstrong of the United States in last month's Tour.

Hainer says the policy of Adidas is not to sponsor drug users. But he but acknowledges that people make mistakes. Hainer also hints that Adidas could sponsor Ullrich's current team Bianchi for next season. The Bianchi team is still looking for a co-sponsor for the coming season.
