Traditional Music & Globalization - 2003-08-13


A prominent South African musicologist has said Africa’s traditional music – a great source of pride for the Continent – is losing ground to the effects of globalization -- especially the media.

He says western style radio, television and other types of technology are replacing the intricate –sometimes delicate -- sounds of african instruments. English to Africa’s Cole Mallard spoke with this specialist and tells us what he learned.
